Newborn Health Insurance?

My wife is due next month. We are in Colorado and on Kaiser insurance. I've read different arguments of how long a baby is covered under the mom's policy. I have read 30 days no matter what because it's the law. I have also read that it is covered for 30 days, however if you don't add the baby to the policy within those 30 days, then they won't pay for those 30 days; they only pay for 48 hrs after the birth for regular delivery or 96 hours for c-section. Anyone clarify?
