Thinning Shears for Fine Hair?

I'm just wondering...has anyone out there had their hairstylist use thinning shears on their fine-textured hair. I had a haircut yesterday and while I have a lot of hair, my texture is fine. The hairstylist used thinning shears on the ends of my air to create a wispy type look for layering. I already do not like it and feel my hair looks thinner. I'm contemplating never going back to her! Will my hair grow back again? I'm just not liking this at all! Aren't thinning shears only for thick hair?
