Is acne directly related to high growth spurts during puberty?

I'm am a 16 year old boy and I have been amidst puberty for 5 years now. I have been wondering if acne is caused by rapid growth. I go through phases that last for a few weeks and I come out of them a little more slinder and with a clear, acne-free face, and this has led me to ask if my acne is directly by this growth and all the hormones. Also, my skin becomes quite greasy for a few weeks too.
