I filed a 10-99 form when I began working at a company, if they partake in scam activity, could I be blamed?
I would say ask your lawyer friend. If you participate in the scam then I would think you should be held liable. If you think it is bad dont work there. Many businesses do 1099's so they dont have to deal with taxes. At the end of the tax year you can submit an SS8 and have the IRS determine if you are an employee or an independent contracto. If you are an employee you will win and the company will be required to pay all the employment taxes and be fined. You wouldnt have a job long after that either. That alone makes them a bad choice to work for. Not only do you have to pay your own federal and state taxes but self employment taxes, ie social security and medicare also.
